Bali

For some reason, we have way less to "do" here in Bali but our days almost seem fuller than in NZ where we ended up driving a total of 1757 miles.  I've been able to run every morning in the sweltering heat which actually feels good up until a point.  A nice path that goes for miles along the beach.  We are in a part of the island called Nusa Dua, on the southern tip.  It's very posh and resort-y, but also quiet and private.  Everything closes by early evening, but we've enjoyed every minute of our daytime here so it's not so bad.  The food and drinks at our "luxury" resort out-price our budget by quite a bit, so it's been good to force us off the property in search of more local food and frosty beverages.
Love that the pools have sand so it feels like a beach!

So usually our days consist of lots of handstand practice (with the game that you can't enter the pool except via a handstand), swimming in the ocean, reading, practicing acro or slacklining, kayaking, and walks on the beach.  People say I'd be bored if I didn't work, but I can't imagine that to be the case.  We're busy doing something from morning till night, even if it's just quizzing each other on spanish vocabulary, or reading "Delirium" (a book that we both downloaded and are quite obsessed with).  [side note:  this is a great book if you're looking for something to read!  maybe a bit like Hunger Games, but of course not AS good.  it's about a world where love is a disease. . . amor deliria nervosa.  And its' going to be a triology. . .Now that I've finished it though, I'm mostly excited to dive into Game of Thrones!!!. . .]

I could live a life of leisure to be sure.

Yesterday we took a long walk down the beach to see this temple and eat at the Nusa Dua Beach Shack where Kadri (a friend of mine and Marissa's) knows the owner and recommended that we stop by!

Speaking of temples, they are everywhere.  I love the statues and the handmade altar flowers strewn about.

My friend Soma was also here visiting, staying a bit north in Seminyak, so it was fun to visit with her for dinner and check out that part of the island.  Lots of cool shops and swanky restaurants, so we'll probably make it back again to visit and explore.  On Monday we head to Ubud to ingest in the cultural part of Bali, and to see another great friend who through the wonders of Facebook I found out is living there for a bit!  Looking forward to lots of yoga, temples, and monkeys. :)

  1. It's been a while but I'm pretty sure this is the area I was in while staying there. I remember a restaurant called "Coup d'état" that was right on the beach and in fact we had a table right at the waters edge. It had great sea food but that may be the case at many of the restaurants around there.
